What To Do In A Car Accident (Part 2)

Welcome back to our two part information piece covering what you need to do if you’re in a car accident. Remember, always stay calm in these stressful situations, and be mindful to follow our advice…

  1. Speak to witnesses

After you’ve completed the first three steps we wrote about in the first part of this series, it’s important to take the time to speak to witnesses. Of course the police will do this when they arrive, but it’s advised that you engage with them. Ask them about what they saw, and what was happening when the accident occurred. Also, if you don’t have a camera in your car documenting the event, you never know who else on the road might have one. Watching the footage of the accident will better help to determine who caused it.

  1. Get the medical attention you need.

Even if you’ve been rear-ended, it’s always best to go to your doctor shortly after you’ve been in an accident. After all, some damage that might have occurred isn’t necessarily on the surface of your skin. Once you go to the doctor, be sure that you get copies of any documents they make pertaining to your case. Don’t ignore this advice, either! Once you’ve been in an accident, your adrenaline will immediately kick in. When it does, a lot of the pain you thought you’d be feeling is masked by your body’s automatic response to the initial shock. Therefore, please go to the doctor sooner rather than later.

  1. Retain a lawyer

This is only applicable to cases that require legal action.
